Katherine Lillian (Kate) LeButt
We sadly announce the passing of Kate Le Butt of Fredericton,
NB. She died on Monday, November 13th, 2017 at Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital. Born on March 28,1926 in Cornwall, ON, she was the daughter
of the late Harold and Olive (Cooper)
Fawthrop and the wife of the late Paul Le Butt. Katherine attended school in Cornwall - Collegiate Vocational School, McMasters University in Ontario and the University of
Toronto. She worked as Childrens' Librarian in Sault Ste. Marie before moving with her family to Fredericton, where she greatly enjoyed driving around the province in the Bookmobile, meeting teachers and students, who were always so excited when the rolling library arrived at their small country schools. Katherine served as Regional Librarian for York Regional Libraryfrom 1962- 1992, and was president of the Atlantic Provinces Library Association 1974/75.On July 17, 1992 she was presented an award from the Province of New Brunswick in recognition of her 30 years of service to its
people and the government. Other awards include one for outstanding service and contribution to the citizens of Fredericton, presented on June 8, 1992 by Mayor Brad
Woodside of Fredericton, and the Governor General's 125th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, presented on January 3, 1993 by J.W. Bud Bird, M.P. Fredericton-York Sunbury.
In later life she was a long time member of the Silver
Dolphinsswimming team at UNB, where she made many friends. Katherine
is survived by one son, Paul Le Butt (Ulrike) in
Hannover, Germany; two grandsons, Philip and Timothy Le Butt;several nieces and nephews; as well as friends and retired coworkers.She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Paul; brothers, Harold, Douglas and Lloyd; one sister, June Atchison.
There will be no visitation or service by the family request. Interment will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to Fredericton, SPCA or the charity of the donor’s choice.
