Gillian Diane Fletcher
It is with great sadness that the family of Gillian Diane Fletcher announces her passing on December 4, 2017 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS, with her family by her side. She was born on August 21, 1962 in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of Donald and Margaret (Tant) Fletcher.
Gillian had a natural love for all animals and while she could pull off a stunning evening gown and light up a room with her beautiful looks and smile, she was probably more at home in blue jeans and riding boots mucking out the barn where she loved to spend time with her beloved horses. After moving to Halifax from Montreal in the early 1970’s she fulfilled an early childhood dream by joining the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers at the age of 12. She was so happy to see her picture still on the wall during a visit there this past summer. Riding horses became her passion and she continued that path by joining the Fredericton Pony Club after the family moved there in the mid 70’s.
She loved being around children and became a second mom to so many that she came in contact with during her young adult years. She worked in several day cares, the school library, was a Sunday school teacher and was also a supply teacher in Edmundston. In more recent years she became a licensed real estate agent in Fredericton where she adopted the motto "I LOVE MY JOB" and she really did. She had a natural ability to make everyone around her feel comfortable and she loved helping people. She always put everyone around her first which was evidenced greatly over the last year of her life when she was worried about everyone around her from her partner in life to her children, her parents, her sisters and nieces and her grandchildren. She even worried about her beloved 18 year old cat "Mya", her Great Dane Izzy and even the fish in the pond. She showed tremendous strength and courage while battling cancer and other life circumstances over the last years of her life. She was a shining light and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Gillian will be greatly missed by her life partner, Sterling Stephens; children, Jordan, Joseph (Danielle) and Jami; parents, Donald and Margaret (Tant) Fletcher; grandchildren, MaryJane (her father, Nicholas Boudreau), Carter and Ashton; sisters, Carole Fletcher (Brian), Susan Dean (John) and Anne Cummings (Derek); as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Gillian’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2 pm with Rev. Richard Bowley officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Memorial donations can be made to Fredericton SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.
