George "Bud" Craft
Our family is very sad to announce the passing of our beloved father, (Papa), grandfather and friend, George "Bud" Craft, on May 8, 2018 in Fredericton, NB. Born on May 4, 1937 in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Percy and Alberta (McLeod) Craft.
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" -Hunter S. Thompson
This quote perfectly describes how Bud lived on this earth and how he left it! His life was a journey where he loved hard, played hard, worked hard and fought hard. He survived cancer as well as too many surgeries to mention for ongoing health issues for the last 23 years of his life. How he lived to be 81 is truly by the grace of God. He never did anything halfway whether it was good or bad. He’d always say "Go big or go home!"
Bud will be mostly remembered not by huge and elaborate gestures or successes but by those he quietly took time to help directly and indirectly over his lifetime. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t do at least one act of kindness for another human being.
He loved to read and loved talking about his latest enlightened experience through the books he read. He loved music, to sing and jive. That man could really dance! He was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan and loved to defend them with a passion. He had a beautiful and dark sense of humour and joked that laughing was what kept him alive for so many years. He found great peace and solace in his journey of faith through the Brunswick Street Baptist Church. He left his mark on many hearts and left this earth deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
Bud is survived by his children, Meridee Craft of NB, John Craft (Barb) of AB, Stuart Craft of ON, Sudon Daigle (Victor) of NB, Kelly Lively of AB and Edward Craft (Amy) of BC; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother Bill Craft (Helen); special Papa to Jaymes and best friend to Shirley Craft. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by an infant son Terry; three sisters Alberta, Arvilla and Alene.
Bud’s family would like thank Dr. Schaus for his excellent care as well as the nurses and staff of 4SW, Cardiac Care and ICU. Your care and compassion has been greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank Pastor Greg Geldart for his comfort to Bud and the family during this difficult time.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Brunswick Street Baptist Church (Sanctuary) in Fredericton, NB with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating. Donations in Bud’s memory may be made to the Fredericton Homeless Shelter or to the Fredericton Food Bank.
