Helena Carol Quinn
It is with great sadness that the family of Helena Carol Quinn announces Helena passed away January 13, 2019, at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center's palliative care unit. Born in St. Stephen, NB, on August 5, 1948, Helena was the daughter of George and Mina McDougall.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughters Wanda (Troy) and Jody, and son Joseph (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Benjamin, Jason and Alexis; sisters, Jean (late Jack), Madeline (Herbie), Viola (Jarvis), Charlotte (late Norman), Jackie (Dan), Connie, Holly (Randy), Edwina (Carolyn), and brother Donald (Debbie); nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt. Besides her parents, Helena was predeceased by her brother, George, and infant brother, Daniel.
Helena was a graduate of the Lawrence Station Regional Consolidated High School, New Brunswick Teacher's College and the University of Maine at Machias. Helena taught in schools in Charlotte County for more than 32 years and participated in activities that ranged from coaching for the Special Olympics, cross country, softball and cheerleading, to mentoring the Math club and regularly chaperoning school activities. Helena was also involved in a number of volunteer activities in her communities of Lawrence Station, St. Stephen, Whitehorse, Yarmouth and Moncton.
Helena took pleasure in sharing her Christian beliefs, which gave her comfort during her illness. Psalm 34 captured her feeling "I prayed to the Lord and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears"
In respect of Helena's request, there will not be a service or visitation at this time. There will be a celebration of her life in the summer.
Helena's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in the oncology and palliative care units of the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center and the neurosurgery unit of the Moncton Hospital for their care of Helena during her illness. For those who wish, donations in Helena's memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
