It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of
Frank Joseph Lawrence on January 24, 2019 at the age of 97.
Born in Northampton, NB on August 7, 1921 to Alfred and
Annie Lawrence, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lyla, his son
Brian and wife Susan and their children Caitlin and Braden, and his
son Gary and wife Veronica. He is also survived by his
sister Daisy and brother Basil, and predeceased by his sister
Frank was a World War II veteran, having served with the RCAF in Europe. After completing his degree at UNB, he had a number of teaching positions in Lawrence Station (where he met Lyla), Plaster Rock and Stanley before finally settling in Fredericton. Frank was a highly respected member of the Fredericton community for 60 years, and a teacher at Fredericton High School for almost 25 years. During this time, he was an active and devoted member of St. Paul’s United Church and the Capital Y’s Men’s Club.
Frank will be remembered for his patience, humbleness, good nature, kindness and willingness to help any and all who sought his support.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Church with the Rev. Richard Bowley officiating. A reception will follow in the Fraser Memorial Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Fredericton or St. Paul’s United Church would be most appreciated.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the friends, neighbours and caregivers who provided kindness and support to Frank over the past several difficult weeks. His life and memory will live on in all of us.
