James (Jim) Franklin Piercy
On Friday, February 22, 2019, James (Jim) Franklin Piercy passed away unexpectedly at age 70 due to cardiac arrest.
Jim was born in Fredericton in 1948 to Franklin and Evelyn (nee Burke) Piercy, of McAdam. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1972 and retired six years ago, after a 40-year career that took him all over the world.
Jim had a passion for motorcycles and adventure. He flew planes, sailed boats, and loved travelling with his family and friends. Within the last year alone, he completed a motorcycle tour in South America and skied the Trois Vallées in France. He genuinely cared about others and took pleasure in sharing his knowledge as a youth basketball coach, motorcycle safety instructor, and math and physics tutor to new Canadians.
Jim loved his family unconditionally and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His gregarious personality, intellect, and calming presence will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Dineen, and his five children: Grace (Tony Hamill), Anna (Gray Shanahan), Jim, Jack (Elizabeth Ryan), and Julia; his sister, Janis Hynes (David Macaskill); his two granddaughters, Fiona Shanahan and Alice Hamill, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers-in-law Robert Hynes and Roland Hill, sisters-in-law Irene Lee and Susan Burchhill Dineen, and niece Emma Hill.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home at 160 York Street in Fredericton on Monday, February 25, from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm and Tuesday, February 26, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from Holy Family Parish at 1500 Hanwell Road.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the New Brunswick Association for Community Living, or a charity of your choice.
