Robert Vincent Ramsay
1926 - 2019
It is with sad and grateful hearts that the family of Vince Ramsay announce his peaceful passing on Monday, March 11th.
Vince was born in Notre Dame De Grace in Montreal, one of three children to Mae (nee Meehan) and Alan Ramsay. The Meehan family was a large one and Vince was surrounded by supportive uncles and loving and strong aunts. As a youngster, Vince played as many sports as possible and excelled at most. He captained three sports in his final high school year, was passionate about downhill skiing and racing in the Laurentians, and thrived as a paddler at the Cartierville Boating Club. Not only would he win dozens of national championships over a 30 year period, his ultimate prize was meeting his beloved wife of 66 years, Bernice (Derynck).
Vince worked for RBC Dominion Securities for 46 years, initially as a trader on the floor of the Montreal Stock Exchange and eventually as a senior partner. One of his greatest professional achievements was balancing work with physical activity and quality time with his family. Every noon for over four decades, Vince would join his Stanley Street YMCA friends for a noon hour workout and every evening Vince would step off the train at 5:50 pm to spend the evening with his family.
The most important part of Vince’s life was his family. Whether it be family camping trips in the early years, invigorating days on the ski hills, a round of golf, or quiet time together in more recent years, Vince cherished his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Bernice, son Stephen, daughter Barb (David Clark), son Bryan (Joanne Blois-Ramsay), grandaughter Caitlin, grandsons Andrew, River and Nash. Vince was predeceased by his dear daughter, Carol.
Vince’s family remembers him tenderly as a man of faith and a true gentleman who conducted his life with great humility, integrity and love.
The Ramsay family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Chalmers Hospital for their kindness and care and would especially like to thank Dr. Scott Robertson for his compassionate care of Vince over the years.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 14th at McAdam’s Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 12:05 pm. Father Bill Brennan will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in the Hermitage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Chalmers Foundation would be appreciated by the family or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com
