Peacefully and surrounded by the love of family, Janet Ardith (Flemming) Clarke passed away at Pine Grove Nursing Home on May 9, 2019 at the age of seventy-nine. Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, on November 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John (Jack) Alexander Flemming and Jennie Louella (Fleming) Flemming Libby. Janet is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Jerry Stanfield Clarke of Haneytown, New Brunswick; daughter, Dawne Clarke (Stephen); son, Jerry Alexander Clarke (Shelley) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; "adopted" son, Norman Merry of Red Deer, Alberta; granddaughters, Meredyth and Emily VanEvery of Fredericton, New Brunswick and grandson, Keith VanEvery of Guelph, Ontario; sister-in-law, Pat Buchanan of Truro, Nova Scotia; nieces, Karen McLellan of Grantham, New Hampshire, Melodie McLellan of Austin, Texas, and Kathie Clarke of Gothenburg, Sweden; nephew, Fred Clarke of Edmonton, Alberta, in addition to innumerable friends who blessed her life over the years. Along with her parents, Janet was predeceased by sister, Marie McLellan; brother-in-law, Frederick Keith Clarke; daughter-in-law, Kathryn (Nielsen) Clarke; as well as many beloved fur babies.
Janet was a devoted wife, mother, and nurse who tirelessly put the wellbeing of her family, patients, and canine companions at the forefront. She was an "old school" nurse who completed her Registered Nurse training at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in 1962. When not looking after home and family, she dedicated a career to caring for servicepersons, their families, and the general public at the Oromocto Public Hospital for close to thirty years. She carried this torch through her last ten years at Pine Grove Nursing Home where she schooled younger generations in traditional nursing practice while having care and concern for fellow residents. Pine Grove became a second home and family to Janet where she forged lasting bonds with staff, befriended many peers, and volunteered in numerous capacities. Her family is deeply moved by, and appreciative of, the care and compassion shown to Janet during her tenure at what affectionately became known as "The Grove".
