John Ross Mitchell
With great sadness we announce the passing of John Mitchell, who died in his 82nd year on October 1st, 2019 in Fredericton.
John is survived by his son Iain Mitchell, his daughter Lorna Scott, his son-in-law David Scott, and his grandchildren Mackenzie, Benjamin and Samantha Scott. He will be missed by his dear friend Inez MacDougall, close friend "Auntie" Halyna Myers as well as many neices, nephews and friends.
John was born on December 30, 1937, in the village of Newton, near Glasgow, Scotland. He and Hillis Mitchell (née Forrest) were married in 1964, emigrating to Canada shortly thereafter. John worked as a mechanical engineer in Toronto, retiring in 2003 and moving to New Brunswick in 2013.
He was a great lover of classical music, old movies, fine scotch, aviation, and, of course, his beloved Jaguar S-Type. He also enjoyed sport, particularly rugby and golf, and is a proud alumnus of Cambuslang RFC (Scotland).
John is predeceased by his wife Hillis, his mother and father Jane (née Donaldson) and Alexander, and his bother William.
At the family's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, New Bruswick. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation would be appreciated by the family.
