Karl H Dore

Karl H Dore

Karl H Dore, of Fredericton and Southampton, died peacefully at the York Care Centre, at the age of 97, on February 27, 2021. Born in Southampton on January 25, 1924, he was the son of William and Beryl (Haines) Dore, in a family with eleven children, all dear, all close.

Survived by children Mary Phillips (Darrell) of New Maryland, Karl J Dore of Fredericton, Charlotte Sheppard of Fredericton; grandchildren Timothy Phillips (Janet), Greg Phillips (Caroline), Natalie Underhill (Scott), Mitchell Dore, Katherine Jardine (Tim), Glen Sheppard, Paul Sheppard (Kate); great grandchildren Ryan, Evan, Gregory, Andrew and Jane Phillips, Julia and Addison Underhill, Ryan, Halle and Meghan Jardine, William, Thomas, Peyton and Alex Sheppard; sister Vivian Tyler of Toronto; brothers Eldon Dore (Velma) of Douglas and Dean Dore (Barbara) of Southampton; many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by daughter-in-law Shirley (Hagerman) Dore; son-in-law Ian Sheppard; mother of his children, Geraldine Dore; sisters Nora Fox, Ellen Morehouse, Geraldine Patterson, Sarah Kennedy; brothers Lloyd, Elwood, and John.

Everyone who knew Karl will remember his warm smile and that mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was a people person. He had a remarkably varied and successful career. Those with memories of the ‘50s and ‘60s will remember his sporting goods business, first on York Street and then at 361 Queen Street. He also had a general repair business, dating from the ‘40s at his George Street home and then at his Queen Street building. A man of great ability, he had a reputation as someone who could and would fix anything. With Karl it was customer first, profit second. A kind and generous man, Karl had great confidence and great optimism. He also had the gift of curiosity.

The family is very grateful for excellent medical care by Dr Srinivasan, Dr Khaleduzzaman, and the many doctors, nurses, and staff of DECH, and excellent nursing home care at Eden’s Retirement Villa and York Care Centre.

A funeral service for invited guests will take place at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2 pm with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating.
